The Beautiful Village - SchöneDorf

Pronunciation: Shah-na Dorf

System of Government

More a cooperative community of like minded folk, the elected mayor and sheriff handle mostly non-Halfling issues.

Name of Ruler or Rulers

The Burrows & Village aren’t ruled by any one person or body and as such there is no ruler. The Mayors’ post as well as the Sheriff is decided by voting and typically outside of old age or times of high need those elected stay seated until a new vote is called for by popular demand.

Major Imports

  • Raw wood comes from several sources such as the elven woods to the forests higher along the coast brought down by ship. Typically the Halflings try using local wood for day to day uses.
  • Stolen goods can be bought and sold at the local merchants but only if the merchant isn’t made aware the item is hot.
  • Stonework of Dwarven make is brought in by ship along the coast when a particular quality is needed beyond what the local craftsmen can produce.
  • Gems come from afar for the most part, either by ship or caravan.
  • Ore comes from outside just as the gems, used by the smiths to create metal works.

Major Exports

Animal products, Livestock, Produce goods, Alcoholic beverages, Breads & pastries (baked goods), Pipe weed, smoking apperataus, Jewelry, Art work, Locks, Wood carvings.

Trade Routes

There is a land route that becomes more treacherous the further away from the settlement and ranches you get. The main route of travel is the Orsha river. The East and West forks of the Orsha converge at the settlement. The West Orsha is said to eventually lead to a flank of the great Dragon's Back Mountain range and go underground to a merchant port of the Drow. The East Orsha comes from great wilderness and terrible unknowns in the Dragon's Back Divide.

After the Orsha becomes one, this great river heads north toward various settlements and eventually leads to a human settlement on the coast. Pirates rule this waterway and are paid for the safe passage of persons and goods along the Upper Orsha. Stray too far and you will find marauding bands of thieves and pirates. If you've survived them, you probably won't survive the unknown creatures that lie beyond....

Climate / Regional occurences

This is a temperate climate region and as such you won’t expect to see snow this far south and winter weather consists of heavier rains and chillier nights, of course there is the seasonal hurricanes to deal with as the eastern coast gets battered by warmer temps bringing the storms up from the south east.

Crafting Resources

There are plenty of crafting raw materials nearby due to the excellent location near both water, hills, fields and a river. Some of those include: Animal skins, meats, baking supplies, farm raised cattle, wood, stone (no valuable ore though) though the better stone is found nearer mountains.

Animals in immediate area

Range livestock, horses, gazelle, antelope, big cat predators, snakes, badgers birds of all sorts and size. The local woods aren’t large enough to support a large population of carnivors such as bears though one or two have been seen from time to time.

Monsters nearby

South and easterly is where the local inhabitants know a loose conglomeration of orcs and goblins who claim the area as their own. The reality is typical for this low intelligence creature type, they spend more time fueding between themselves and the nearby trolls who live in the warm sands west of them that it is rare to see a raiding party make it this far north and west.

Small bands of kobolds roam some of the plains west and south of SchöneDorf and call some of the small caves home in the gentle hills south.

Were you to continue south from the village you would eventually run into the desert. Its not known how deep or wide it is but the deeper into the desert you go the hotter and more bearen it becomes. The desert is home to many a warm and dry monster. Some of the more typical ones you might encounter are trolls, salamanders, large worms that burrow thru the sand.

It is rumored a civilization once flourished in the area when it was green and fertile thousands of years ago but has been lost to time and memory.

Tales of large flying monsters also are told at night to frighten the children, stories of full grown Halflings foolish enough to leave the village being picked up and taken away never to be seen again.
